Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1 Review
It doesn’t matter what trade you’re in, you own a reciprocating saw. The reciprocating saw is my go-to tool for remodeling, and demolition projects.
Factors in Purchasing a Reciprocating Saw
Key considerations in buying a reciprocating saw are:
- Power
- Length of stroke
- Type of blade action, [straight or orbital]
- Vibration
- Corded vs. cordless
We recently took the Using the Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1 to our jobsite for a test drive. It’s the cordless, little brother to the Dewalt DWE357 compact reciprocating saw, which reviewed a few years back and we were excited to see if it was as powerful.
Using the Using the Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1
Dewalt is no stranger to “user experience,” and “user experience design.”
On it’s simplest level, user experience is how you feel about every interaction you have with the tool in front of you, at the moment you’re using it. UX is a lot more than that; ranging from concept to research, engineering, prototyping, testing and user testing, to list a few.
Dewalt hit the UX mark on this saw. We immediately liked the size of this saw! Its compact, and lightweight design had my attention the moment I saw it, later while using it and even afterward when zippering it up in the tool bag.
It’s comes with a 5.0 Ah battery which we found, had plenty of runtime to get us through the day.
The The Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1 is not a super powerful saw, but it certainly has enough power to handle a wide variety of tasks on the job-site; including cutting through pipe, lumber, threaded rod, OSB, PVC and roofing with ease.
The pivoting shoe is solid and operates smoothly. It not only provides the leverage necessary to complete different applications, but is designed to allow better flush-cutting operations.
Compact Size
The compact size of the DEWALT DCS367P1 allows it to better fit between stud and joist bays as well as confined spaces. The tool weighs 5 lbs., [without battery] and measures 14.5” in length.
The shape and design of this saw actually makes the saw smaller and more compact, than traditional reciprocating saws, as well as allowed us more control and balance.
Blade Stroke
The The Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1 has a 1-1/8″ stroke length and a variable speed trigger this reciprocating saw delivers up to 2,900 strokes per minute with accuracy.
Why would you want a 1-1/8” stroke? The longer the stroke length the more aggressive the cuts – think demolition. Shorter strokes like ¾” is perfect for pipe cutting, controlled cutting and tight areas.
Blade Changing
The DEWALT DCS367P1 features a keyless, lever-action 4-position blade clamp for quick and easy blade changes in four directions for a variety of applications including flush cutting. A LED light illuminates the blade area.
Rubberized Anti-Slip Grip
The The Dewalt XR Compact Reciprocating Saw DCS367P1 has a rubberized anti-slip grip [rubber boot] which helps increase safety around the front end of the tool to help absorb vibration and reduce hand fatigue.
Since were talking grips, the tools trigger handle is amazingly comfortable, and probably my FAVORITE tool handle among all manufacturers. I’ve seen the prototyping and user testing process that Dewalt went through to design this handle, and it’s truly impressive. They really hit the mark with their handle and now incorporate it in almost every tool they can.
Dewalt DCS367P1 Improvements
There are two things I’d like to see addressed with this reciprocating saw. I’d like to see less vibration and a hanging hook. This saw vibrates a lot more than larger, heavier saws.

Overall Impression of the Dewalt DCS367P1
The Dewalt DCS367P1 will NOT be your most powerful cutting reciprocating saw, but I think you’ll find with size / weight to power ratio satisfying. We enjoyed using it, and can definitely see trades that do not need super powerful reciprocating saws, like the Flexvolt, using this as their go-to saw.

Hi Rob,
First off this was a great review, thanks for that! I just want to comment on what you said about the vibration. Is the vibration bad enough that your hands are tingling/numb after extended use? I know you said it has more vibration than a bigger/heavier saw, which to me would make sense seeing how the weight isn’t there to dampen vibration, regardless, I’m buying this saw tomorrow. I’m a huge fan of Dewalt and I have nothing but good things to say about their tools. I’m a DIYer and have several cordless tools and ALL of them have been great with no problems whatsoever. Thanks for the great review!!
I have and use this saw on a daily basis. I use it for roofing plumbing, carpentry among other things. I Have even cut up brush with it in a pinch. No issues plenty of power. Especially if you throw a 6 ah power with those beloved 21700 cells. Vibration isent to bad. Typical with these tools. My buddy has the flexvolt one and while bigger it constantly kicks off while using battery run time is way shorter than mine. His cuts a little faster but he charges his way more often so while he’s charging I’m still cutting. Great saw for what it’s worth. I love the compact size and weight and feel
