Makita 1-1/4 HP Compact Router Model RT0700C Preview

La Mirada, Calif. – Makita, a worldwide manufacturer of technologically advanced power tools that are more compact with less weight yet deliver industrial strength power and results, has released a new 1-1/4 HP* Compact Router, model RT0700C. The new Compact Router combines performance and precision with less weight in a more compact size. And it’s also available in a kit, model RT0700CX3, which includes accessories as well as a plunge, tilt and an offset base for a wide range of routing applications.

“A clear trend in woodworking is the move to more compact power tools, and this includes routers,” said Joe Soto, Product Manager, Woodworking. “With our new RT0700C Compact Router, we engineered performance into the tool with a one and one-quarter horsepower motor, as well as precision features like rack-and-pinion fine depth adjustment. But we also made it more compact, so it’s actually the size and weight of many laminate trimmers. This innovative new compact router is also available in a kit, which includes the three bases you’ll need for routing applications.”

Performance and Precision for Routing Applications

The RT0700C Compact Router has a powerful 1-1/4 Horsepower motor with a variable speed control dial (10,000-30,000 RPM) that enables the user to match the speed to the application. Additional performance features include electronic speed control to maintain constant speed under load, and soft start feature for smooth start-ups. The RT0700C is double-insulated with a heavy-duty aluminum motor housing for increased durability.
The RT0700C is engineered for precision and includes a smooth rack-and-pinion fine depth adjustment system and easy-to-read depth scales for more precise settings. The quick release cam lock system is designed for easy depth adjustments and base removal/installation, with a high-visibility base design for improved handling and performance.
Additional features include a slim and ergonomically designed body that weighs only 3.9 lbs., with a durable flat top design for added convenience when changing bits. The base can be removed quickly to install other bases, and the shaft lock is engineered for quick and easy bit changes (uses ¼” shank router bits). The RT0700C includes the tool, ¼” collet, 3/8″ collet, straight guide, template guide, dust nozzle – straight base, and two wrenches.

Also Available in a Kit

The RT0700CX3 Compact Router Kit includes all RT0700C accessories plus a plunge base, tilt base, offset base assembly, dust nozzle, side handle, trimmer guide assembly, and tool bag. The plunge base has a full 0″ – 1-3/8″ plunge depth capacity for easy penetration into the work piece, and an easy-to-use fine depth adjustment with 3 preset depth stops for added precision. The tilt base provides routing at different angles with positive stops at -30° and 45°, and the offset base allows for routing in hard-to-reach areas and as close as ¾” to the wall.

Other than the plunge base, this reminds me a lot of my colt. If it works as well as the colt, they’ll sell a lot of these.

I just got a compact PC version. I haven’t tried it yet, but it sure does feel great in the hand…if it runs as well as my other PC routers it will also be a huge winner.
