Ryobi is introducing a new HYBRID LED Color Range Work Light P790. The unique thing about this light is its adjustable knob that allows you to correlate light temperature for improved color perception.

What I mean by that, is this light offers a Variable color temperature adjustment from 2700 to 5000 Kelvin Degrees to give you the most accurate view of your workspace.

Variable Color Temperature Adjustment

You might be wondering why this is important?

Contractors like painters/decorators, electricians, and HVAC contractors will appreciate the ability to adjust the color temperature for better, truer color representation, especially with colored wire identifying.

Color Temperature is measured in Kelvin.  LEDs can produce white light in a number of “shades” or “color temperatures”

  • Warm-white (similar to regular incandescent and halogen bulbs, 2700 to 3,300 Kelvin)
  • Neutral or cool-white (3,000-5,300 Kelvin)
  • Cool daylight (5,300 to 6,500 Kelvin)

Interesting fact: The lower the number, the warmer the light appears. Cool white light has been associated as better for concentrating, and you often see work lights in this color.

Favorite Features

The Ryobi Hybrid LED array is rated up to 50K runtime hours by CREE, A major manufacturer of LED components.

I like that the Ryobi Hybrid light head rotates 360º and a know on the side licks the LED head into position. It offers the choice of dual AC/DC power options so you can plug in for longer use.

The Ryobi Hybrid light weighs only 2.6 lbs, and gives you 24 hours of runtime using a ONE+ High Capacity Lithium Ion Battery.

Light Output Settings

It has 3 light output settings:

  • Low: 100 lumen
  • Med: 700 lumen
  • High: 1200 lumen

Mounting the RYOBI ONE+ HYBRID LED  Work Light

It fits all ¼-20 tripod mounts, can be hung on a wall or suspended with a bungee or sometimes I use a strip of Romex cable to tie it up.

Improvement

The only criticism I have on this light is you have to cycle the switch throught medium and then low, to turn it off.

Cooler Light Temperature

Cost

The HYBRID LED Color Range Work Light will be sold exclusively at The Home Depot for approximately $79.00

Overall Impression

TheRYOBI 18-VOLT ONE+ HYBRID LED Color Range Work Light P790 is a simple, well designed and constructed light. It has some features that Pro contractors WILL appreciate and a cost that beats the band!  Check it out!

Does anyone know the CRI of the LEDs? CRI (Color Rendering Index) is what gives you accurate representation of colors from lights. The scale goes to 100. A good LED CRI is around 80, a really good one is 90+.

    1. Todd Fratzel

According to CREE they both have a minimum CRI rating of 80
