Plumbers are no longer left out of the cordless revolution with the introduction of the M18 FUEL™ SUPER HAWG®. The SUPER HAWG® is the big brother of the HOLE HAWG®, specifically designed for drilling larger diameter holes that plumbers and mechanical contractors need for rough-in applications.

Nothing Compromised – Power and Speed
When large power tools are cut from their power cords the question used to be what compromise was made in order to go cordless. This used to be a very fair question and often times a good compromise for the freedom of a cordless tool. The new Milwaukee M18 SUPER HAWG® has certainly bucked that trend by offering a robust design utilizing a brushless motor, 5.0 Ah battery, and advanced electronics which results in a cordless drill that offers matching power to it’s corded brother and even faster drilling.
When I first tried the new M18 SUPER HAWG® at a media event last Summer I was drilling a 6″ hole through LVL engineered lumber like cutting butter with a hot knife. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. But the true test came this Fall when I put the new M18 SUPER HAWG® in my plumbers hands and let him and his crew start roughing in homes and remodeling projects. When I asked if there was any difference in performance they chuckled at me and said the tool is the “REAL DEAL”.
M18 SUPER HAWG Built To Last
We’ve come to expect high quality tools from Milwaukee and the M18 SUPER HAWG® doesn’t disappoint. The image above shows a cut-away of the gear box in that includes all metal gears designed for long life and extreme torque applications. The overmold is a thick rubber that helps with grip and protects the tool. One of the other benefits to going cordless is the lack of a cord to cut, twist, and damage which is an annoying problem we’ve all faced. The entire tool not only looks tough but feels like it was built for the long haul.
M18 SUPER HAWG® Run Time
The big question with a large cordless power tool is run time. Milwaukee publishes that this tool can drill (75) 2-9/16″ diameter holes on a single charge. We found that the drill can meet and exceed that number when drilling in standard KD framing lumber. With two batteries included with the kit my plumber was able to work continuously throughout the day without waiting on a battery to charge. The 5.0 Ah battery offers that extra “fuel” to keep the job going. And now that Milwaukee is offering a M18 High Demand 9.0 Ah battery I’m sure there’s no limit to the amount of work a plumber or mechanical contractor can perform in a day.
Milwaukee Cordless SUPER HAWG® – Overall Impression
Milwaukee continues to smash down the barriers of cordless tools and the M18 FUEL SUPER HAWG® is a perfect example. This is a tool that most users likely never thought possible on a cordless platform yet here it is. The M18 FUEL line is able to produce significant torque and power for tools that were once only viable on a 120V platform. The M18 FUEL SUPER HAWG® doesn’t compromise on power or speed and in some situations out performs it’s corded brother. If you’re a plumber or mechanical contractor you would be nuts not to own this tool. I can’t think of a single thing that I would recommend to improve upon and that alone should indicate how well Milwaukee did on this design.
With a five star rating and performance that supersedes any expectations I had this tool is a must have. Go buy it…you won’t be disappointed!
