No question, the Milwaukee M12 FUEL drill/driver is the best drill/driver I’ve ever used. I know it’s a strong statement but the pairing of high-capacity batteries with brushless motors is downright amazing. It gives power that’s never been available in such a small package before. Big power in a small form factor is appealing not only to tradesmen but anyone who doesn’t want to carry the weight of the bigger tools or needs to get into small spaces without sacrificing any capabilities. If I didn’t know how brushless motors worked I wouldn’t have believed that so much power can come from 12 volts.
What’s Included
The Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/2 in. Drill and Driver Kit comes with the drill, 1 M12 2 Ah battery, 1 M12 4 Ah battery, M12 charger, a belt clip for mounting on either side of the tool, and a blow molded tool case. The drill and charger are compatible with all M12 batteries from the original to the new XC batteries.

Things I Love
When I first got this tool I thought the inclusion of the two different batteries was a way for Milwaukee to keep the price down but having a battery sized for the job is great. Small battery for small jobs, big battery for big jobs. It helps keep the tool weight down. Another thing I love is the brushless motor. So much power in a small package. The 12v is the first drill I go for, the 18v have been gathering dust lately. The 1/2″ all metal chuck is another great feature. Large capacity with great durability. The final feature I want to mention is that all the user setting controls are really easy to operate. The clutch ring, drill/drive mode, and speed selector are all smooth and easy to adjust. Some drills I’ve used in the past are a pain to adjust, not so with the Milwaukee M12 Fuel.
What Could Be Better
Just like I mentioned in the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Rotary Hammer review, I think Milwaukee needs to come out with a modular case system like Bosch, Dewalt, or Festool have. Tradespersons would love it. I know I would. Other than that the tool is great. Like I said, it’s the best drill/driver I’ve ever used.
In Use
The last few months the Milwaukee M12 Fuel Drill/Driver has been the all-star of the workshop. Pocket holes, pilot holes, general screw driving needs, and even turning a small brass wire wheel to remove a rust spot from the bandsaw table. It is so small and convenient. It’s the tool I reach for every time. Check out the gallery below to see it in use.
