Bosch PS21-2A Pocket Driver
Bosch PS21-2A
The folks at Bosch sent me their Bosch PS21-2A 12-Volt Max Pocket Driver to review.
The kit includes:
- Bosch PS21-2A 12-Volt Max Two-Speed Pocket Driver,
- Two lithium-ion 12-volt Max batteries,
- 30-minute charger,
- Carrying case.
First Impression:
What impressed me the most about the PS21 was how compact and light the Bosch PS21 it was. The handle of this driver has a comfortable rubber grip and a real nice ergonomic feel to it.
At 1.8 pounds using this driver overhead is going to be easy with reduced neck and shoulder fatigue.
The PS21 Pocket Driver’s short nose is the perfect size to fit in those tight spots like between floor joist bays and inside and underneath cabinets.
This driver is perfect for fitting into these tight spots – plumbers will love this tool when working in tight spots like under sinks. The tools fits nicely in my tool pouch as well so I don’t have to place it down, I can keep it with me.
Using the PS21 Driver:
The PS21 Pocket Driver packs a ton of power. Comparing the power to size ratio it delivers 265 pounds of torque. The PS21 Pocket Driver has a two speed switch (1st-0-350 RPM / 2nd – 0-1,300 RPM)
When testing the PS21 Pocket Driver out in my shop I drove dozens of 6″ Timberlock lags and 3″ screws without pre-drilling into framing lumber with ease. The tool is well balanced and engineered.
The PS21 tool comes with two 12V Max lithium-ion batteries. The batteries fit inside the tool handle. The 30 minute charger offers a quick turn-around for the battery as compared to most chargers that take almost an hour. The variable speed trigger switch worked well, was smooth to operate and is excellent for starting screws or pilot holes slowly and increasing speed as needed.
One real nice feature is the “AutoLock” function. As soon as you release the trigger, the bit locks in place allowing you to use hand power to rotate the tool when you need a little extra torque or to loosen a screw slightly. A real nice feature.
The 20+1 Clutch Settings is perfect for adjusting the torque of the driver to predict and allow for precise screw driving and depth setting.
The PS21 has an LED Light under the driver. Although extremely handy, this light could be improved, currently it gives off a shadow when driving fasteners.
Overall Impression:
I liked the Bosch Pocket Driver PS21-2A and highly recommend it. It was compact, lightweight and comfortable to use.
The best features for me are its compact size, light weight and power. The power of this little driver is impressive and the Auto-lock feature is a real nice touch!
I can see the Pocket Driver being used across the board from homeowners to contractors. The PS21 driver is perfect for homeowner but powerful enough to withstand the rigors and demands of the job site!
How Much and Where To Buy:
The Bosch PS21-2A comes with the ProVantage three-year tool protection plan, which guarantees two years of free battery replacements and three years of tool protection. This comprehensive plan allows for tool replacement for one year and free tool repair for the second and third years.
The Bosch PS21-2A 12-Volt Max Pocket Driver sells for approximately $ 130.00 here: Bosch-PS21-2A-12-Volt-Pocket-Driver
