This new saw is part of Dewalt’s XR lineup. The XR stands for “extended runtime,” and is designed to deliver specific features that meet the needs of a wide range of applications and job sites to get the job done faster. Dewalt places advanced electronics extended run-time and faster application speed
s for extreme performance. They even pair the saw with a fast charger.
Power
Designed with a brush-less motor that provides 5200rpm we noticed that the DEWALT 7-1/4″ 20V XR Circular Saw DCS570P1cuts fast, was powerful and maintained speed under load. We were pleased with this saws cutting performance, especially the 7-1/4” blade capacity.
Run-time
Dewalt claims the saw can achieve 330 cross cuts in a 2×4 (pine), we did not test this saw for runtime. At Tool box Buzz we feel that most of the major tool brands that are offering a full size circular saw are using good lithium-ion battery packs along with brushless motors.
Based on this assumption, this saw will run long enough for the average worker to complete his or her work in a standard work day, with a battery change. Possessing two battery packs, and the fast charger, ensures that the saw sees no downtime.
Capacity
The DEWALT 7-1/4″ 20V XR Circular Saw DCS570P1 comes with a 7-1/4″ blade, bevels to 57 degrees and provides a 2-9/16″ depth of cut at 90° and 1-5/8” at 45°. Adjusting the depth of cut and bevel is easy and the action is smooth. The bevel lever is large and easy to maneuver. The bevel adjustment has two positive detents, one at 22.5° and the other at 45°.

Ease of Use
As far as ergonomics go, this saw has an awesome handle configuration that is comfortable and natural. The main support grip is comfortable and there is a push in safety button which is easily depressed. The support handle was ergonomically designed with an offset angle to relieve some of the strain to your wrist while cutting. This saw measures 15” long and is 10” high. It weighs 9 lbs.
There is an LED light, located low on the saw near the baseplate, that lights up the cut line nicely.
Safety
This XR saw has a lower guard design that is designed to reduce guard hang-ups, improving performance for bevel cuts an thin slice cutting. We used the saw to make slice cuts as well as angled and angled bevel cuts to try to get the guard to hang up. There were no issues.
There is an ambidextrous safety switch on the tools handle and the electric brakes stops the saw blade instantly.
Lacking Rafter Hook
The DEWALT 7-1/4″ 20V XR Circular Saw DCS570P1 does lack a rafter hook. This is annoying when you want to hang the tool on a sawhorse or framing as opposed to resting it down on a table or the ground. Resting a tool on the ground is not always preferred especially when working in snow or muddy areas.

Based on your comments, I started looking at this saw to replace my 40 yr old corded saw. Yesterday, I purchased the bare tool at the local Lowes, and I found that it now comes with a rafter hook. I have to say, it is everything you said it was. Smooth, powerful, and accurate. Thanks for review.
