Bosch 18V 1 In. SDS-plus Bulldog Rotary Hammer Review

The Bosch GBH18V-26 18V EC Brushless 1 In. SDS-plus Bulldog Rotary Hammer allows you to cut the cord for small masonry holes, like drop in anchors and wedge anchors.

The best part of this hammer drill is its compact size. It measures 3″ wide  by 13.7″ long, weighs  7.7lbs, and delivers 1.9 Ft.-Lbs. of impact energy, that is an outstanding impact-to-weight ratio in anyone’s book.

Bosch GBH18V-26 18V 1 In. SDS-plus Bulldog Rotary HammerSize vs. Power – packs a “PUNCH”

According to Bosch, this hammer provides 50 percent more impact energy than previous-generation brushed-motor hammers.

Safety Features

The GBH18V-26 has KickBack Control, which uses an integrated sensor to stop the hammer in the event of accidental kickback on bit jams and binding.

This integrated acceleration sensor automatically shuts the tool down when a potentially dangerous rotational torque reaction occurs preventing the tool from rotating out of control and causing injury.

Performance

The Bosch GBH18V-26 also has such advanced features as Electronic Precision Control, [EPC] which limits max startup power to up to 70 percent, offering a slower ramp-up.

Whether your drilling or chiseling, this slow ramp-up gives you reduced max performance for more accurate bit starting and better control of the tool.  The EPC selector switch is located in the handle area of the tool.

The tools has a variable speed trigger and an electric brake works well and immediately stops the chuck quickly. We found it easy to operate and maneuver.

Mode Selector Dial

The Bosch GBH18V-26 has a mode selector dial allows the tool to be set for various applications. The mode options are:

  1. Drilling Only
  2. Drilling / Hammering
  3. Vario-Lock  [allows you to select the hammer chisel to be custom positioned]
  4. Hammering Only

Ergonomics

The Bosch GBH18V-26 has Vibration Control, in the hammer mechanism and grip area, making the tool easier to handle for longer periods of time.  An ergonomic L-shaped design allows for comfortable horizontal drilling applications.

Motor Electronics and Battery Protection

Motor electronics protect this tool with a sensor that manages temperature     to avoid overheating. Electronic Cell Protection keeps the battery from overloading and overheating which equates to more runtime for the tool. These technologies transfer operational data between the tool and battery to control energy flow and avoid potential tool damage.

These electronic protections protect your tool, [your investment], from you pushing the tool to hard!

The batteries include Bosch’s CoolPack technology, which is a heat conductive housing that keep batteries cooler for superior run time and 2X life.

Cost

The Bosch GBH18V-26 comes as a bare tool and costs $350.00 and $519 as a kit. Overall we were impressed with this little Bulldog. Its size to power ratio is super impressive.
