As part of their new pneumatic line of nailers, DEWALT unveiled the DWFP12233 18 gauge Precision Point Brad Nailer in June of 2015 at their DEWALT Experience event in Charlotte North Carolina. The Tool Box Buzz Crew was at the event when the new pneumatic line was unveiled and had a brief chance to test and evaluate them. We could not get a complete evaluation on this nailer due to time restrictions, so DEWALT sent one for us to review and evaluate actually using it on the jobsite and in the workshop. DEWALT’s new line of finish nailers features Precision Point Technology, very similar to their Bostitch line of nailers’ Smart Point Technology. The Precision Point Technology offers much better accuracy and easier nail placement through a smaller nose footprint. DWFP12233

First Impression:

Since I only got to see the nailer in Charlotte my first impression did not amount to much so I will give you my second impression. When the DWFP12233 arrived I quickly noticed it was weighed less (3.1lbs) than my current brad nailer (4.1lbs) and came with a carrying case.  Less weight to me equals less fatigue when using the nailer for long periods of time. Also having a sturdy hard plastic case to me means less damage during transportation. This nailer is a precision tool and keeping it in good condition is important due to the type of finish work you are doing.

DWFD12233 Standout Features:

As mentioned previously the DEWALT DWFP12233 features the Precision Point Technology which is new to the DEWALT pneumatic line of nailers. This technology allows for easier nail placement through a smaller nose which was also designed to provide much better line of sight of the work surface. The no-mar tips also reduces work surface damage and you do not need to compress the contact trip to actuate the tool. Additional features include tool free depth of drive adjustment for proper setting on nail heads, tool free jam release mechanism, rear exhaust, and a beefy adjustable belt holder. This nailer accepts brad nails from 5/8” to 2-1/8” in length. DEWALT also includes nice swivel air hose fitting which provides exceptional movement and eliminates the hassles of fighting with the hose.

Overall Impression:

One thing I can really appreciate on this brad nailer is the new Precision Point Technology and the improvement of line of sight. With a smaller nose footprint and better no-mar tips, the risk of damaging your finish work is reduced greatly. Add those features with the reduced weight and hard plastic carry case, you have yourself a reliable, well crafted, well balanced brad nailer, one which I highly recommend.
