Pinewood Derby® Days

Here’s some fun news from Lowe’s and Dremel for all the Boy Scouts out there wanting to build a great Pinewood Derby car. Check out the press release below for more details.

MT. PROSPECT, Ill. – January 4, 2011 — Racers, start your rotary tools. Dremel and Lowe’s have teamed up to help Pinewood Derby® enthusiasts create race cars they can be proud of by hosting a series of in-store clinics that kick-off on Jan. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at all Lowe’s stores nationwide.

Anyone interested in learning how to build a better Pinewood Derby® car is invited to attend a Dremel and Lowe’s Pinewood Derby® Days clinic, where demonstrators will teach racers the best tools and design techniques to use in order to create a speedy race car.

Clinics will be held on select Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at all Lowe’s locations nationwide. Participants are encouraged to call their local Lowe’s store to confirm their participation and event details before attending. This year’s event dates are Jan.15, Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 19 and March 5.

In addition to leaving the clinics with new knowledge of expert car design tips and tricks, all participants will receive an official Boy Scouts of America®-approved race badge patch and a coupon for 10 percent off their entire Dremel purchase of tools, accessories and attachments. Dremel has also developed an officially licensed Pinewood Derby® Rotary Tool Accessory Kit exclusively for Lowe’s stores complete with an official BSA® Pinewood Derby® Kit including a pinewood block, four wheels, four axels and the 18 best rotary tool accessories for tuning, crafting and shaping your car. A complete line of rotary, oscillating and multi-purpose tools, attachments and accessories are also available separately.

“Pinewood Derby® races are all about fun and learning key life skills,” said Bob Gfeller, senior vice president of merchandising at Lowe’s. “Not only can you get your hands dirty and build a race car, but you get to spend time with your family doing it. We are both proud and pleased to offer our Derby Days clinics as a one-stop shop for all the tools and knowledge you need to start building and start a new family tradition.”

Race fans are invited to visit www.dremelderby.com, where they can access an online car design studio, brush up on car-building tips and techniques and purchase Dremel tools and accessories. All derby car builders are encouraged to upload photos and videos of their car creations, races and the building process to share with other builders.

Pinewood Derby® races are an annual event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America®, and other organizations now offer similar racing events. Dremel and Lowe’s have partnered to provide an annual Derby Days racing event since 2004, and introduced officially licensed Pinewood Derby® products in 2008.
