I recently had the opportunity to evaluate and test the Milwaukee Cordless Copper Tubing Cutter, Model # 2471-22.

The M12 Copper Tubing Cutter is designed for cutting copper and is touted to be a huge time saver for plumbers, mechanical contractors and re-modelers.

First Impression:

The M12 cutter comes in a durable case and is light weight, was well balanced and has a nice ergonomic feel to it.

The tool is powered by a 12 volt Lithium-ion battery which is the BEST technology currently available for cordless tools, plus it’s friendlier to the environment than conventional NiCd batteries.

The M12 cutter features a “fuel gauge” that indicates the battery charge, making it faster and easier to plan projects and decrease your downtime.
The shape of the Milwaukee M12 Copper Tubing Cutter made it very easy to get into tight spots to cut or remove pipe. It only needs 1-1/2” clearance to grab a pipe and cut.

The LED light illuminated the M12 cutter and pipe area well.

According to Milwaukee, with a 12V LITHIUM-ION Battery the M12 cutter can make up to 200 cuts on a single battery charge.

The Milwaukee M12 Copper Tubing Cutter cuts similar to a hand held cutter but is ten times faster! It has two spaced steel rollers and an opposing cutter that spins at 500 RPM and automatically adjusts diameter to cut through 3/8” – 1” (½”– 1-1/8” OD, Type K, L, and M).

The design of the M12 offers greater reach and reduced wrist strain in confined spaces. It also eliminates the wear and tear on the user by eliminating the need to manually spin the tool.

The metal cutting head is corrosion and rust resistant, sealed for protection from water which is a good thing if your cutting into water pipes. Electronic overload protection and uni-body construction provide exceptional durability.

Using the Milwaukee M12 Cordless Copper Tubing Cutter:

The Milwaukee M12 Copper Tubing Cutter, worked well. I was surprised at how fast it cut copper pipes. This tool would pay for itself in a new residential installation.

I cut 1/2 and 3/4 type M and L and the cutter cleanly cut through both types of pipes quickly and effortlessly.

My brother, a plumber, and his crew are now using the M12 cutter. Their feedback on this tool was surprising. I fully expected themto reject a new fangled gizmo as a flash in the pan. The results are the opposite and they fight over it and argue who’s truck it should permanently belong in.  Now, the M12 is the first tool they reach for when cutting copper pipe.
