Ryobi Power Tools has been known as the homeowners or “DIY” brand but at Tool Box Buzz we know that many Pros and entry level tradespeople use the brand.  We still feel that we need to test these tools on the job site in the hands of professionals to see if they have the fortitude to withstand the wear and tear we put our tools through daily, more specifically the RYOBI PSBRA02B Cordless Brushless Right Angle Drill.

A right angle drill is a drill with a head set at a 90° angle to the grip. The head on a right angle drill is typically much shorter than what you’d see in a traditional model, and the grip is usually designed to be comfortable when operated with one hand. This drill is clutch when trying to get into tight spaces.

Ryobi recently came out with some new tools in their new series called ONE+ HP. The ONE+ HP (High Performance / Advanced Technology) This series is designed for tough working conditions for extended periods. Can the RYOBI PSBRA02B withstand the Jobsite?

We are always looking for ways to be efficient and work smarter, not harder. When we build out decks one of the most gratifying parts of the process to us is installing the railings. There is something about the white railings we use that just makes the deck pop.

When installing railings it’s very important not to mar up the posts or have the bit slip off the fastener and damage the railing or posts. We used the RYOBI right angle drill to secure the fasteners into railings brackets from underneath. The right angle drill head was just the right size to fit in between the balusters. We were able to control the speed with the paddle trigger, therefore not coming off the fastener and nixing the PVC or marring it up.

Overall Impression

Right angle drills are like a fire extinguisher, you don’t need them until you need them. Right-angle drills do not make my everyday tool list but we do have a need for them. RYOBI PSBRA02B (bare tool) is a great option that will not break the bank and a tool for under $100 that will come in handy when you least expect it. We never thought to use a right angle drill on our deck projects but it will be our go-to from now on!
