Looking Back At the Bosch Sander
So we’ll see how well this tool held up…. And were our initial thoughts correct? Did we miss something? Would we buy this sander again?
Bosch Sander Highlights
In 2012 I said to you all that the Bosch ROS65VC 6-Inch Random Orbital Sander was the nicest sander I’ve come across and I still feel the same, here are some of my look back thoughts
- I felt it was big and chunky
- I loved the variable speed trigger
- It removes material fast with minimal swirl marks
- It has low vibration
- The dust collection is amazing
Big and Chunky
In 2012 I was hesitant about the size of this sander. It weighs 5.3 lbs, has a rugged die-cast aluminum gear housing and oversized forward grip [which is removable] I still feel that this sander is big but it has had no negative effects on projects. I’ve never removed the handle and it’s so smooth and well balanced I can operate it with one hand, or a super light grip.
There is no fighting this sander, very little vibration and that results in no fatigue.
Bosch Variable Speed Trigger
The Bosch ROS65VC Random Orbital Sander has a variable speed trigger with a lock-on button and a separate variable speed dial. The tool has a range of 5,500 to 12,000 OPM. In 2012 I commented that I loved the trigger switch, and I still do.
Fast Removal Of Material
The Bosch ROS65VC 6-Inch Random Orbital Sander is has a powerful 3.3 Amp motor and results in fast stock removal and a smooth, well-blended finish. There is an integral pad-dampening system that also helps prevent swirl marks for a consistent finish. It’s now my go-to shop sander.
Bosch AVC Vibration Control
This Bosch sander is smooth to use. Bosch used an exclusive suspension system to minimizes vibration. To do this they mounted 4 foam blocks to the motor to separate the housing from the motor.
Bosch Sander Dust Collection
The sander has two dust-collection systems – Microfilter dust canister with integrated paper filter and screw-off cap that works ok, and a vacuum hose connection with airflow control. I pretty much exclusively us this sander attached to one of my shop dust extractors.
The dust port accepts 1-1/4” inside diameter and 1-1/2’ outside diameter hoses. You may notice in the video when attached to my Festool Mini, I use some tape to cover the airflow control.
Cost and Overall Thoughts
The cost of the Bosch ROS65VC 6-Inch Random Orbital Sander has come down and you can now purchase it for $229.oo available at the link below.
I really liked this sander in 2012 an I still do – its a workshop workhorse and a keeper!
