Klein ET200 Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester Review
By James Nadeau
I don’t know about you, but when I’m forced to go to the mall I don’t use the main entrance. I go in around the back which allows me to go through the tool section of Sears before I enter the mall. This strategically puts me in a position to walk through and walk away with a new tool. Klein ET200 Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester was one of those purchases.
Klein ET200 Voltage Tester
As an Electrician, the Klein ET200 Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester is perfect for my projects. I consider it the “Swiss Army Knife for electricians,” as it allows me to safely stow my more expensive multi meter in the van until needed.
The Klein ET200 tester has low impedance to limit false readings and a safe solid-state design.
Voltage is indicated by light, vibration and tone and is easy to use and read. This tester features an LED display and an automatic display shutoff. 3 AAA batteries are supplied with the tester and power the light and continuity.
One of my favorite features is the ability to read both voltage and continuity simultaneously. This allows me the freedom not to have to switch back and forth between voltage and continuity on the meter.
The Klein ET200 Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester is basically a yes or no device, and will alert if continuity is detected. It provides a range of volt basic measurements including:
- 12 Volt
- 24 Volt
- 48 Volt
- 120 Volt
- 208 Volt
- 240 Volt
- 277 Volt
- 480 Volt
- 600 Volt
Klein ET200 Features
You can never have enough flashlights. I’ll be about to enter a crawlspace and realize I forgot my work light. Now instead of using my phone I can just turn on my voltage tester. This light certainly isn’t a bright work light but it does a great job for a small lighting applications.

How Does The Klein ET200 Voltage Tester Compare?
I’ve used the Knopp voltage tester for years, that’s what my previous mentors and bosses used so that’s what I used. I feel Klein’s tester exceeds my old Knopp tester. Not only is just as durable, but having a combo flashlight and continuity tester made it far more efficient and versatile. Since starting my own business I am always looking for tools that make me more efficient and profitable. The Klein ET200 Electronic Voltage Continuity Tester is one of those tools, it’s durable, efficient and reliable.
Improvements
There are a couple improvements that could be made on the Klein ET200. I found the light often accidentally turns on when placed in my tool bag with other tools. Klein could easily prevent this by recessing the switch or making it more difficult to accidentally activate while in your tool bag.
The other issue I had was the label showing the voltage peeled off and even ripped in a few spots. I had to use my electrical tape to put it back on. After a few months I had tape all over holding it in place. Longer lasting labels would be helpful.
Note: Once the batteries die the voltage tester will still work, but the light and continuity do not.
Klein was founded in 1857 by Mathias Klein and has been a leading manufacturer of electrical tools for a long time. Klein’s enjoys a reputation of making quality, durable tools.
I’ve always kept a voltage tester in my everyday tool bag in order to keep my more expensive multi meter protected, in the van.
