We have been reviewing the Hitachi C10FSHPS 10-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw both independently on the job site as well as in our recent Head-2-Head Miter Saw Comparison, where we put this saw up against six other well reputable brands. We found some really nice features, as well as few improvements, we think might elevate this saw to the next level.
Keep your eyes peeled here for the upcoming H2H review… With that being said, let’s get to it!
OUT OF THE BOX:
When I got my hands on the Hitachi C10FSHPS it came ready to work. Only thing I needed to do was attach the easy to install blade, and put on the dust bag (spring loaded) and get to work.
One of the things that I first noticed was the copious amounts of grease that was covering all the moving parts. Grease in moderation is good, but this seemed excessive. Within a few cuts I noticed that the grease captured the saw dust, making it gunky. This necessitated me having to clean off the saw slides. Another attention grabber was the weight, or lack of! I put this baby on a digital scale and came up with 44lbs. To me that is a perfect weight for a portable job site miter saw. There are some monster 10” saws out there that weigh upwards of 60lbs.

SAFETY FEATURES:
When properly equipped and responsibly used, miter saws are relatively safe machines. Where proper equipment and/or reasonable use are lacking, the hazards of the rotating circular blade can cause serious traumatic injuries. Statistics show that 86% of miter saw injuries are from blade contact. The C10FSHPS comes with a clear plastic blade guard that provides great visibility. Other miter saws have darker or tinted blade guards that reduce line of site cutting surface.
Another great safety feature is the safety trigger/release mechanism. The trigger/release type requires the operator to make two separate motions before the saw’s motor can start: depress a and hold down a release button and then, press the trigger. By requiring two separate motions, a saw equipped with a spring-loaded trigger and release cannot be inadvertently started by unintentionally bumping or squeezing the trigger.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Besides the copious amounts of grease on the slides another thing I noticed is the Hitachi C10FSHPS 10-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw only has one bolt hole which doesn’t allow you to bolt to most quick release mounting brackets that come on miter saw stands.
One way to avoid the saw horses and plywood work tables would be to cut a piece of plywood, bolt the saw to that piece and bolt your quick release mounting brackets to the plywood. Seems a bit over kill, but for someone who relies on space saving and less fuss, a larger base with additional bolt holes would eliminate this issue.
FEATURES:
The Hitachi C10FSHPS Miter comes with a variety of cool features. Usually with more bells and whistles comes more money out of your pocket. The C10FSHPS has your standard features, but also has some standout features worthy of discussing.
MITER DETENT STOPS:
From either the left or the right, the C10FSHPS has miter detent stops @ 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45°. Whether cutting crown molding at a 22.5° angle or tilting it up to cut at the traditional 45° angle, the detent stop make it quick and simple.
ADJUSTABLE PIVOT FENCE:
The adjustable pivot fence broadly supports long work pieces to improve stability while making cuts. The pivot fence can be placed on either the right hand side or the left side depending on workspace and the cut you desire.
ELECTRONIC SOFT START
The electronic soft start suppresses sound pressure and recoil during the start-up process and allows for an extremely smooth operation.
LASER MARKER TECHNOLOGY:
Hitachi equipped the C10FSHPS with its exclusive Laser Marker System, which can be activated before the blade is in motion for exact alignment and predictable blade placement. The laser marker is easily adjustable to suit your preferences, simply line up the laser with your mark on the work piece, and the saw blade will make an exact cut along the laser guide. As long as your measurements are right, your cuts will be, too!
DUST COLLECTION
One of the better features of this saw is its dust collection. When we were testing the dust collection on the miter saw we cut twenty five pieces of 2”x6” lumber. We were able to collect roughly 32oz of dust particles in the HEPA vacuum. There was very minimal dust particles that were left on the platform after making the cuts. The standard dust bag it comes with is easily installed and comes with a zipper to make emptying the bag a breeze.
OVERALL IMPRESSION:
The Hitachi C10FSHPS 10-inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw is smooth, powerful and extremely accurate miter saw. Whether you are making meticulous cuts in crown molding and casing, or cutting the toughest of tough wood, LVL, you can count on the C10FSHPS to get the job done. Job to job I could be doing anything from rough framing to finished carpentry, with the power and smooth accurate cuts the C10FSH provides, it makes it a great saw to rely on. Whether you are a professional contractor, finished carpenter or a serious DIYer, this saw is highly recommended and reasonably priced.
